The Robin Thrush Jr. Band
"Born To Play"
It's been years since we have had any new music that when you put it on and listen to it all the way through once, you then walk over and press the replay button. Two or three hours later you're still listening to it and singing along with the songs and enjoying the excellent guitar work and the professional quality of the recording and production. The choice of songs is a perfect showcase for the band to explore and present their collective talents, and the star of course is Robin Thrush Jr. who plays Lead and Rhythm Guitar, and Lead and Backing Vocals. The sound is Fresh, Raw and Gutty and that's the way we like our Rock and Roll and Blues to be. It's clean, not over produced, and the most contagious music we have heard in many years. Our only thought is that it should have been a two cd set, this music from The Robin Thrush Jr. Band is all we will be listening to for a long time to come.

The Robin Thrush Jr. Band
"Born To Play"
CD Review- Music City Blues Society
Bluesletter, May 2002
This disc is by a hot guitar slinger who is a
mere 12 years old. His name is Robin Thrush Jr. and this CD is already
getting airplay on Blues DeLuxe Radio, with his cover of the Freddie
King standard "Hideaway." The boy can play! His sound is
rock-blues with great phrasing. Maybe it's because he started doing it
at age 2!
His band on the disc includes his Dad, Robin
Thrush, on bass: Drummer Don Kendrick (who played on the road with
Freddy Fender for years and can often be heard playing with my favorite
band Delicious Blues Stew); and slide and rhythm guitarist Dave Keefer.
Dad and Keefer contribute most of the vocals, they're fine, but not
spectacular. Young Thrush sings on the standards "Goin' Down"
(gotta say good things about a kid who is this into Freddie...) and the
Buddy Guy thing "Before You Accuse Me." He sound like, well, a
twelve year old, but it's OK, 'cause he rocks with a fellin', and he
digs Freddie and Buddy. Thrush Jr. wrote two instrumentals on the disc,
while Dad or Dad and Keefer wrote six of the other cuts. The disc sounds
great, probably because it was recorded by Jerrod Cring at Clazzy
Studios, which is earning a reputation for putting out quality work.
I'm proud to have this record, 'cause one day
this hard-rockin' boy could be a very well known fellow. You can grab a
copy at the band's website. And, ya', I know those tunes weren't written
by King and Guy...

The Robin Thrush Jr. Band
"Born To Play"
He is one professional musician already at his
age, and this is not to mention the fact that the backing band is also
of high caliber! It's also nice to see that this CD is of mainly all
original compositions. I would like to hear him play some material of
Johnny Winters, I believe Robin Thrush Jr. could do his music justice,
which is a big statement coming from me.
His musical prowess is head and shoulders well
above others, which obviously runs in the family!
Do yourselves a favor and don't miss this CD.
You will be pleasently surprised like I was, from the first note!
